NEET 2020 Changes by NTA

Some key changes have been observed in NEET 2020. A few of these changes have been introduced to curb issues like impersonation and other malpractices to the candidate verification process. Here’s a brief of the changes introduced by NTA:
  • NEET UG Replaces AIIMS MBBS and JIPMER: With AIIMS and JIPMER admissions also brought under NEET, NEET 2020 is the only medical entrance examination for all candidates who wish to apply for MBBS or BDS Courses in the country.
  • Application Fee Increased: Application Fee for NEET 2020 has been increased. For the general category it is INR 1500, for GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL INR 1400, and for SC/ST/PwD and Transgender it is 800. Whereas, last year the application fee was INR 1400 for General category and INR 750 for SC/ST/OBC and Transgender candidates.
  • Uploading of Scanned Images: Till last year candidates had to upload a scanned image of their photograph and signature only. From this year onwards, candidates have to upload their postcard size photograph, left-hand thumb impression and class X passing certificate as well.
  • Exam Centers: This year, the exam will be conducted in 155 cities including Ladakh, the latest entry in the list of NEET exam centers.
  • Self-declaration Mandatory for Ladakh and Kashmir candidates: Aspirants from Kashmir and Ladakh need to fill in the form of self-declaration for seat allotment under AIQ.

NEET 2020 Application Form

NEET 2020 Application Process is over. With JEE Main’s registrations reopening, there were speculations about NEET registrations reopening too. However, the requests were rejected by the authorities. Documents and other details required to fill the application form were:
  • Applicant’s name, father’s name, mother’s name, address, date of birth, mobile number, email id
  • Scanned copies of Class X passing certificate, left-hand thumb impression, passport size photograph, postcard size photograph and signature in the given size and format. Check NEET 2020 Photo Size, Dimension, Format and Other Details
  • Aadhaar Number (last 4 digits), Class XII Roll Number, Election Card (EPIC No.), Ration Card No., Bank Account Passbook with Photograph, Passport Number or Number of any other Photo Identity Card issued by Government.
  • If the fee is paid online and the status is not ‘OK’, it indicates that the transaction is canceled. In such cases, the candidates have to pay the fees again and ensure the ‘OK’ status. Any additional deducted amount will be automatically refunded to the source account after the last date of online submission of the Application form.
NEET Registration Trends
As we can see from the infographic (mentioned above) the number of applicants for NEET exam has been increasing each year. But, since the number of seats available is limited, only top scorers will be given the opportunity to pursue their lifelong dream of becoming a doctor in India’s most reputed medical institutes.

NEET 2021 - Next Year Plan

NEET 2021 – Next Year Plan

  • CBSE has decided to reduce the syllabus up to 30% from Class IX to XII. The syllabus has been reduced from all the subjects including physics, Chemistry, and Biology which are major subjects for NEET. This could affect the preparation of the candidates as they will not be able to understand the basics of the topics and will also not be able to solve the questions which are interrelated to curtailed topics. Read More Syllabus reduction impact on NEET 2021
  • With the reduction in the syllabus by CBSE, there are speculations that the syllabus for NEET 2021 could also be revised but no official announcement has been made yet by the respective authorities.
  • The official notification of NEET 2021 is expected to release in the month of November 2020.
  • As per the schedule followed by NEET in previous years, you can check the tentative dates for NEET 2021 below:

Reasons that could affect NEET 2021 Exam Date

  • Due to COVID-19 schools are closed and because of the high strength of students in the schools, we can expect that the school could be the last place to open after the lockdown is over.
  • However, all the students are attending the classes in the online mode but still to complete the whole syllabus online is the biggest challenge.
  • This may lead to the delay in the final exams of class 12 which could further lead to the delay of NEET 2021.

NEET vs AIIMS MBBS

Each year the NEET exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency whereas, AIIMS MBBS was being conducted by the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, an autonomous body with its base in New Delhi. But just like all the other state medical entrance examinations, AIIMS MBBS was also quashed among other eligibility tests for admission into medical colleges across the country
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan’s verdict on October 4, 2019 clearly stated that admission to all the MBBS courses including JIPMER and AIIMS must be done through a common entrance test known as NEET. AIIMS exam tests a candidate’s knowledge qualitatively but on the other hand, NEET tests quantitative knowledge of a candidate.  Major differences in the exam such as number of questions, mode of exam, etc. are mentioned below in a tabulated format -

While the questions in NEET are predictable and mostly repeated, students applying for AIIMS did not even get to know any previous year questions. This made selection into AIIMS a difficult task, but not an impossible one. It is always a good idea to check the latest sample papers for NEET exam available at Collegedunia.com. Solving sample papers prior to the exam can turn out to be an asset for the students and might give them an upper hand in the exam.
