Kushtia (Bengali: কুষ্টিয়া) is a city in the Khulna Division of southwestern Bangladesh. It serves as the headquarters of Kushtia Sadar Upazila and Kushtia District. According to Banglapedia, Dinmani Secondary School, founded in 1930, Kushtia Zilla School (1960), Kumarkhali M N High School and Mohini Mohan High School (1944) are notable secondary schools. Kushtia District is an administrative region in the Khulna Division of southwestern Bangladesh. Apart from Lalon's shrine, there are Rabindranath Tagore's Kuthibari and Mir Mosharraf Hossain's residence in Shilaidaha of this district. The Islamic University is the only government in Bangladesh and the first independent university in Bangladesh. Kushtia district is called the cultural capital of Bangladesh. Kushtia is the administrative headquarters and the main city of the district. The spoken language of the people of this district is said to be the purest language of Bangladesh i.e. the most standard form of Bengali language in Bangladesh. The area of Kushtia district is 1,621.15 sq km. It is bounded on the north by Rajshahi, Natore and Pabna, on the south by Chuadanga and Jhenaidah districts, on the east by Rajbari district and on the west by Meherpur district and Nadia district and Murshidabad district of West Bengal, India.
