JoJo Siwa Reacts to SNL’s Parody of Her “Gay Pop” Rebrand: “ICONIC”

JoJo Siwa is taking her Saturday Night Live moment in stride — and calling it iconic. The 21-year-old pop star, who’s been making headlines for her edgy style transformation and bold new sound, was parodied during a recent SNL episode, and she couldn’t be more thrilled.

The sketch aired on May 4, during the show's Weekend Update segment. SNL cast member Chloe Fineman appeared in full JoJo Siwa cosplay — complete with a black rhinestone bodysuit, heavy eye makeup, and the now-signature Kiss-inspired makeover from Siwa’s “Karma” era.

“It’s a pretty big change,” Fineman-as-Siwa quipped. “I used to be rainbow sparkles, and now I’m black sparkles. I look like if a figure skater joined a street gang.”

“Gay Pop” & Queer Icon Status

The parody took aim at more than just her outfit.

Fineman’s impersonation also poked fun at Siwa’s recent Billboard interview, where she discussed her role in creating and promoting a genre she calls “gay pop.” The parody character excitedly declared:

“I’ve completely reinvented myself. I mean, no one my age has done this… I’m 20 and gay. I’m the first gay girl in the world! Bet you never met a gay girl before!”

That joke echoes real-world criticism Siwa faced after her “gay pop” comments stirred social media controversy. While Siwa later clarified to TMZ that she didn’t invent the genre, she expressed her desire to bring more visibility to it:

“I’m not the creator, I’m not the president, but I might be the CEO.”

JoJo’s Reaction: “This Is F**king Crazy”

Many stars might have bristled at a national TV parody, but not JoJo. The day after the segment aired, Siwa shared her response on Instagram with enthusiasm:

“ICONIC. I literally don’t know what to say. This is f**king crazy. 3 and a half minute sketch on SNL….”

It’s not every day a pop star gets the full SNL treatment — a sure sign that Siwa’s cultural relevance is hitting a new peak. Whether fans see her reinvention as brilliant or bewildering, people are paying attention.

As she told Billboard not long ago:

“Like it or not, you’re going to look.”

Siwa’s Viral Year: “Karma,” Chaos & Confidence

JoJo’s “Karma” era has made her a headline mainstay throughout 2025. From her gritty, leather-clad performances during Pride Month to her viral TikTok choreography and bold interviews, she’s commanding attention far beyond her original teen fanbase.

Her new EP “Guilty Pleasure” drops July 12, and her highly anticipated reality TV docuseries is currently in production with Dance Moms creator Jeff Collins.

Being spoofed on Saturday Night Live is a rite of passage for pop culture figures — and JoJo Siwa has officially made the cut. But instead of flinching, she’s owning it, laughing along, and fueling the fire of her larger-than-life rebrand.

Whatever you think of her “gay pop” CEO title, JoJo Siwa’s evolution is unmissable — and she's just getting started.
