Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, is set to launch in Bangladesh, marking a significant milestone in the country's digital transformation. This initiative is led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, who envisions Starlink as a means to bridge the digital divide, particularly in remote and underserved areas .

The Bangladeshi government has been actively collaborating with SpaceX to facilitate the deployment of Starlink services. In March 2025, it was announced that local companies had commenced work on establishing ground infrastructure, including the construction of Ground Earth Stations, to support Starlink's operations in the country .

Starlink's satellite-based internet service offers high-speed connectivity, with download speeds ranging from 25 to 220 Mbps and upload speeds between 5 and 20 Mbps . This capability is particularly advantageous for regions where traditional broadband services are limited or unavailable.

However, the introduction of Starlink in Bangladesh is not without challenges. The cost of the necessary equipment, approximately $599, and a monthly service fee of around $120, may be prohibitive for many potential users . Additionally, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is in the process of formulating guidelines to ensure that satellite internet services comply with local security and surveillance laws .

Despite these hurdles, the partnership between Bangladesh and Starlink holds promise for enhancing the nation's digital infrastructure. By providing reliable internet access, Starlink can empower individuals in remote areas, support educational initiatives, and foster economic growth through improved connectivity. As the project progresses, it will be crucial to address the associated costs and regulatory considerations to ensure that the benefits of Starlink are accessible to all Bangladeshis.
