Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, known simply as Mir Mugdho, was a 25-year-old student and activist whose life was tragically cut short during the 2024 anti-discrimination student protests in Bangladesh. Born on October 9, 1998, in Uttara, Dhaka, Mugdho completed his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Khulna University and was pursuing an MBA at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) at the time of his death. On July 18, 2024, during a protest in Azampur, Uttara, he was distributing water and biscuits to fellow demonstrators when he was fatally shot in the head by law enforcement. His final words, "Water, water, anybody needs water, brother?" were captured in a video that went viral, symbolizing his commitment to peaceful activism. Mugdho's death galvanized the student movement, leading to widespread protests and significant political change. In his memory, Khulna University renamed a campus space "Mugdho Mancha," and his legacy continues to inspire those advocating for justice and reform in Bangladesh.
