Did Doja Cat Eat Lipstick at the VMAs? Here’s the Sweet Truth

Doja Cat’s Viral “Lipstick Bite” at the VMAs Was Actually a Chocolate Surprise

Doja Cat knows how to keep us talking—and gasping. The Grammy-winning artist made waves once again at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, when she appeared to bite into her lipstick on the red carpet and, quite shockingly… eat it.

Fans were left stunned. Social media erupted with a mix of “ew!” and “is she serious?” But fear not—Doja Cat did not actually eat a real lipstick bullet. It was all part of an ingenious (and edible) beauty stunt by MAC Cosmetics.

In collaboration with renowned pastry artist Amaury Guichon—aka the chocolate guy—MAC created a completely edible version of its iconic red lipstick shade, Lady Danger. The dessert art was so convincing that even the most seasoned beauty lovers were fooled.

A Chocolate Lipstick So Real, It Fooled Everyone

In a behind-the-scenes video shared by MAC on Instagram, Guichon is seen pouring molten caramel into chocolate lipstick molds, crafted to precisely mimic the texture and color of MAC’s Lady Danger. The attention to detail went as far as engraving the MAC logo onto each bullet, making it nearly impossible to tell the difference from the real product.

Guichon reportedly made over two dozen of the edible lipsticks, and Doja Cat was seen biting into them multiple times throughout the night. The inside was gooey, sweet, and totally safe to eat.

While it looked shocking to see someone eat lipstick on live TV, it was just another example of Doja’s brilliant commitment to character—and a masterclass in beauty marketing gone viral.

Doja Cat x MAC: A Match Made in Beauty Heaven

As MAC’s newest global brand ambassador, Doja Cat continues to push boundaries in fashion, makeup, and performance art. The edible lipstick moment perfectly encapsulated her brand: bold, unexpected, and wildly entertaining.

MAC leaned into the viral moment with a replay post, captioned: “The perfect award show snack: MAC.” The post also included Doja’s complete red carpet makeup breakdown—because yes, we’re obsessed with her glam just as much as the stunt.

Don’t Try This at Home

Even though the lipstick was edible, MAC and Guichon made sure it was crafted by professionals. Real lipstick, of course, isn’t meant for snacking—no matter how much of it we accidentally consume. So while the moment was deliciously clever, let’s leave the chocolate lipstick artistry to the pros.
