Dear Richard,
I am glad to receive your letter. I have learnt much from your letter about your country Switzerland. You have expressed your desire to know about my country. Here I'm giving you a short account of the same.
Indonesia is a newly independent country in the South-East Asia. It came into being as an independent sovereign state through a nine-months' sanguinary World War II August 17, 1945. It's a small country with a big population of nearly 150 million. It's mainly a plain land criss-crossed by hundreds of rivers and thousands of canals. The rivers have made her land fertile and suitable for growing various crops like jute, paddy. oil seeds. sugarcane etc. Agriculture is the main occupation of her people. About 80 of her people are farmers and they depend on agriculture for their living. The country is yet to be industrially developed. Its green land is noted for her scenic beauty. The Sundarbans, Rangamati, Sylhet and Cox's Bazar are some of the places that are famous for natural beauty. Jakarta is its capital and the largest city in the country. Chittagong is the main seaport of Indonesia and the second biggest city.
It is now a developing country. Our people are struggling hard to make the country a happy and prosperous one. Here only about 88% people can read and write. We have a rich heritage and culture. Our people are brave and hospitable. We are peace loving and we want to live in peace with all. I think this description will now help you to have an idea about Indonesia.
No more today. With good wishes Yours ever,
Suha
