Two Iranian Revolutionary Guards Killed While Clearing Explosives From Israeli Strikes in Khorramabad
Tehran, Iran – Two members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed Sunday while attempting to neutralize unexploded ordnance left over from Israeli airstrikes in western Iran, according to Iranian state media.
The Tasnim News Agency, closely affiliated with the IRGC, reported that the incident occurred in Khorramabad, a city in Lorestan province, one of the areas heavily targeted during last month’s Iran-Israel war.
The IRGC released a statement confirming the deaths and described the incident as part of an ongoing operation to clear the region of explosives left behind by “the Zionist regime’s aggression.”

The deadly war erupted on June 13, when Israel launched a large-scale bombing campaign aimed, it claimed, at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Tehran has repeatedly denied these allegations, insisting its nuclear program is strictly peaceful.
The 12-day conflict saw some of the most intense direct exchanges between the two arch-rivals in decades. According to Iran’s judiciary, over 900 people were killed in the Islamic Republic, including high-ranking military commanders from the IRGC and prominent nuclear scientists.
In retaliation, Iran launched missile barrages that killed at least 28 people in Israel, according to Israeli authorities. A ceasefire brokered by unnamed international mediators came into effect on June 24, ending the hostilities — at least for now.
The IRGC personnel killed on Sunday were reportedly working to make the region safe for civilians, as many areas in western Iran remain hazardous due to unexploded Israeli munitions.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made his first public appearance on Saturday since the outbreak of the conflict, participating in a religious ceremony in Tehran, according to state-run outlets.
In a sign of returning normalcy, Iran officially reopened its airspace on Thursday, including over the capital, Tehran. The airspace had remained closed since the onset of the war due to security concerns and risk of further Israeli strikes.

As cleanup operations continue and tensions remain high, international observers warn that any miscalculation could easily reignite conflict between the two nations, both of which remain deeply entrenched in opposing strategic and ideological positions.
