Blind Date Review: Katy and Nick – Hugs, Bears, and Almost Sparks

Blind Date Review: Katy and Nick – Hugs, Bears, and Almost Sparks

In this heartwarming if not totally heart-racing edition of the NY Times Blind Date, Katy, 44, a clinical psychologist, and Nick, 47, a consultant, bonded over bears, Glastonbury, and good manners. Though romance may not have roared to life, mutual admiration and top-tier hugging skills were definitely on the menu.

Katy on Nick: “So easy to talk to – a breath of fresh air”

Katy came into the date with open expectations and was met with warmth, generosity, and someone who kindly shared the bigger half of both starters. From tattoo chats to bear survival tactics, their evening was full of light, easy-flowing conversation. She described Nick as considerate, smart, and easy-going, and though she didn’t feel a romantic spark, she’d happily see him again as a friend.

Score: 8 – “Rating the date, not the person.”

Nick on Katy: “None of this air-hug, spongy blancmange stuff”

Nick, clearly a hug connoisseur, appreciated Katy’s solid embrace and her tales of trekking in the Congo and upcoming Arctic camping adventures. He admired her passion for working with refugees and trauma survivors and enjoyed swapping festival stories and mischief. While he noted a slightly awkward moment (Katy calling him “not photogenic” – ouch), he still gave the date a strong 7.8 and praised her as adventurous, caring, and active.

Verdict: Campfire vibes, but no flames

This date had all the ingredients for something solid: mutual respect, humour, curiosity, great hugs, and a shared love of music and travel. But as both admitted, the spark never quite materialised. That said, it’s rare to see such wholesome post-date energy, with zero regrets and plenty of warmth.

Prediction: No romance, but strong friend potential. Expect postcard updates from Katy’s Arctic trip and Nick’s next Glasto escapade.
