Journey in a Crowded Bus

Travelling by bus has become very difficult these days. Most buses are overcrowded, with people hanging dangerously from the doorways or standing on the footboard. It is not that people enjoy travelling this way—most of them have no other option.

The other day, I had to take such a crowded bus while going to school. The bus was already jam-packed, and many people were standing outside, barely holding on. When the bus stopped at the Science Laboratory area, I somehow managed to grab the door handle and slowly pushed my way inside. In a sharp voice, the conductor asked the driver to move on.

Inside the bus, it was extremely suffocating. The situation was miserable, especially for women and children. The few lucky passengers who got seats were somewhat comfortable, but the rest of us could hardly stand. I was standing almost on one leg, clinging tightly to the overhead rod for support.

At one point, a child began to cry loudly, and the mother tried her best to calm him. Whenever a seat became empty, people rushed toward it, creating chaos and confusion. The conductor kept pushing passengers inside to make room for more and stretched his hands through the crowd to collect fares.

Due to the heavy crowd, it was difficult to maintain balance, especially when the driver applied the brakes suddenly. Many passengers were thrown forward or stumbled. Suddenly, a loud shout came from the gate: "Pickpocket! Pickpocket!" I turned around quickly and saw a young man jumping off the running bus. Surprisingly, the bus didn’t stop.

Finally, I reached my destination. With a deep sigh of relief, I squeezed through the crowd and got down. It was, without a doubt, the most uncomfortable and tiresome journey I have ever experienced.
