Essay on Leisure For SSC & HSC Board Exam

Leisure

Leisure means free time—when our mind is relaxed and our body is at rest. It is the sweetest moment when we can enjoy ourselves freely, passing time in joy and merriment. Modern life is very busy, leaving little scope for leisure. The progress of materialistic civilization has made life almost a continuous struggle, where we are always busy working hard for success. This may make it seem like there is no room for leisure, but that is a wrong idea.

Every person must have some time each day for relaxation. Just like a machine that works without rest soon breaks down, the human body and mind also get exhausted without rest and recreation. Therefore, leisure is very essential for life. It helps keep the mind cheerful and drives away the dullness and weariness caused by work. The saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Indeed, leisure is almost as necessary as food and water.

We should make provisions for leisure in our daily routine. For example, we should set apart at least one day a week for rest and relaxation. It is also helpful to plan how to spend leisure time. We may organize get-togethers with friends and relatives or arrange joyful activities such as musical soirees, dances, dramas, and more.

Leisure benefits both our body and mind. In fact, leisure is perhaps the very essence of a happy and healthy life.
