Some Common flowers of Bangladesh
Bangladesh is a land of diverse and beautiful flowers. Nature has adorned her with a wide variety of flowers, making the country a picturesque and dreamy land.
Some of the most well-known flowers in Bangladesh include the rose, krishnachura, shimul, rajanigandha, gandharaj, bakul, jui, beli, kamini, chameli, lotus, lily, water lily (shapla), dahlia, jasmine, tagor, champa, and sheuli.
Among them, the rose is often called the queen of flowers. It is admired for its vibrant colors and sweet fragrance. The krishnachura, palash, shimul, and champa are popular spring flowers. Although they don’t have much fragrance, they are incredibly attractive due to their bright and bold colors.
The sheuli is an autumn flower. Small in size, with bright white petals and an orange stalk, it looks very charming, especially in the early morning dew. The marigold is a flower of winter. It comes in various colors, shapes, and sizes and is widely used for decoration and ceremonies.
Some flowers bloom at night and spread their sweet fragrance over a wide area. These include the rajanigandha, gandharaj, bakul, hasnahena, and jui. Their scent makes the night air delightful.
During the winter, flowers like cosmos, dahlia, and chameli enhance the beauty of our gardens. There are also aquatic flowers such as the lotus and the shapla, which bloom in marshy lands, beels, canals, and ponds. The lotus is known for its delicate perfume, while the shapla—our national flower—blooms in white and pink. When these flowers are in full bloom, the waterlands appear like a dreamland.
In addition, there are many wildflowers that grow naturally along roadsides, in fields, and in uncultivated areas. Though often unnoticed, they too possess natural beauty and charm.
